I'm so proud to announce that, along with 19 other artists, I have been awarded the Doris Duke Performing Artist Award for my body of work and continued work in the theater. This award will help me make more work now, and will help me secure my life and work down the road. This is a new award, we are the second round of artists to receive it, and the news came out the blue: I was floored. I am utterly inspired by all of the other artists in my class, and honored to receive this award with them.

I'm in research / writing mode for most of this year, working on commissions from Steppenwolf, Manhattan Theater Club and a musical version of Dan Baum's book 9 Lives with composer / songwriters Paul Sanchez, Coleman deKay and Shamarr Allen.

Also moving steadily forward with two big PearlDamour projects, LOST IN THE MEADOW (premiere Sept 2014 in Longwood Gardens) and MILTON (projected to premiere in late 2014 / early 2015). Please check the PearlDamour page for updates!

There will also be some action on Jack Spicer's Billy The Kid this summer, the play-with-music I'm working on with my husband, Brendan Connelly. Check out some of the gorgeous songs HERE.

In the Fall of 2013, I'll be in residence at both The MacDowell Colony and The Bellagio Center.....incredibly grateful for the much needed quiet writing time.

There will be several productions of Detroit at theaters around the country next season -- keep your eye out!

SUPER excited to be teaming up with Annie Kauffman this year on my new play CHEROKEE. Originally a commission from Steppenwolf, it will premiere in Jan 2013 at the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia.
